Vallecitos Water District is an award-winning public agency providing water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services to a population of over 103,000 residents with a budget of over $175,000,000.

The Position


Supervises the Information Technology department, including assigning and evaluating the work of 4 staff in the areas of network administration, help desk, and application development. This position recommends, develops, implements, and monitors long-term plans, goals, and objectives to achieve District technology and business priorities; manages computer information systems for all District facilities and departments, including system-level security procedures and protocols, user and other authorization files, and installations, upgrades, customizations of hardware and software; and manages contracts for equipment, licenses, and outside services.


Ideal Candidate


The ideal candidate has both technical and people skills, and is a self-starter with a collaborative approach to problem solving. A strategic planner with the vision to plan for the future while ensuring integration of IT resources and alignment with District goals. As a leader, the candidate must have a positive attitude, foster a team environment, and possess a blend of skills to serve as a technical supervisor and a coach/mentor for staff. In managing the District’s technology, a cost-conscious approach is necessary, in addition to the ability to find innovative solutions that improve functionality and increase efficiencies.




A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, and 5 years’ experience in computer systems administration and support required. At least one year in a lead role is preferred. A Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator is highly desirable.
