Vallecitos earns 2013 ‘Collection System of the Year’ honors

Post Date:02/21/2014 2:58 PM

Vallecitos Water District was recently named 2013 ‘Collection System of the Year’ (small collection system category) by the California Water Environment Association – San Diego section for employing industry-leading procedures and techniques to increase system reliability and make the District an environmental protection leader.

Vallecitos was honored for its 2013 feats. Along with circulating approximately 1.2 billion gallons of wastewater in its system through the year, staff found time to perform proactive maintenance. This included cleaning a day’s journey of 220 miles of sewer mains, inspecting an approximate marathon run of 24.9 miles of sewer pipe and smoke testing or forcing smoke through 8 miles of sewer line to detect illegal hookups that can lead to excess water and sewer overflows.

This “Collection System of the Year” honor offers recognition to the District for an optimum performing system that not only benefits Vallecitos customers with service reliability but the entire community with fewer wastewater spills released into the environment.

Founded in 1927, the California Water Environment Association is an association of 9,000 members committed to keeping California’s water clean. They achieve this through training, public information and the promoting of sound policies to benefit the society through protection and enhancement of the water environment.
