The San Diego County Water Authority is a wholesale water provider that treats and sells drinking water to the Vallecitos Water District, and other local retail water agencies, for distribution to homes and businesses. The Water Authority recently experienced a treatment process failure at its regional treatment plant. Due to additional treatment processes that are in place, the water in regional pipelines continued to be safe for all uses.

Although this was not an emergency, customers have a right to know what happened, what the Water Authority is doing to correct this situation, and what they should do. You do not need to boil your water or take other actions.
On April 21-22, 2019, water in the Water Authority’s treatment plant was not in contact with the proper dosage of a disinfectant called ozone for the required amount of time. The Water Authority implemented policy and engineering changes to immediately identify and correct improper valve conditions that led to the April 21-22 incident. If there had been an emergency, people would have been notified immediately.
