Awards and Honors PageTo better serve its public, the District moved to a new headquarters in 1997.  The Administrative, Operations and Maintenance Facility at 201 Vallecitos de Oro in San Marcos is part of a 64-acre industrial parcel that Vallecitos purchased in 1993. The award-winning architecture is based on the prairie style of Frank Lloyd Wright. (Larger View)

The Meadowlark Water Reclamation Facility produces up to 5 million gallons of reclaimed water per day. After being treated to the appropriate level, the clear, odorless recycled water is sold to the City of Carlsbad and the Olivenhain Municipal Water District for landscaping purposes. Purple piping distinguishes reclaimed water from potable water.

Twin Oaks Reservoir gif

At 33 million gallons and 392 feet in diameter, VWD's Twin Oaks Reservoir Facility, at one time, was the largest of its kind. The concrete, circular reservoir went into operation in mid-February 2000, providing crucial local water storage for Vallecitos customers. The $25 million project, including land acquisition and accompanying pipeline, is located on a 29-acre, rural site in the northern portion of the District. Its location enables the reservoir to serve nearly 95 percent of the district. (Larger View)

The West Lift Station located in Lake San Marcos enabled the district to replace an old, inefficient sewer lift station on the west side of the lake and abandon another station on the east. An 800-foot-long, 36-inch-diameter tunnel was bored under the lake for a pipeline that carries the sewage by gravity from the east side to the new station on the west. (Larger View)
