Water-use efficiency is a critical part of the region’s long-term strategy to ensure adequate water supplies. To help ease the transition to a more water-efficient home or business, several water conservation rebate programs are available for Vallecitos Water District customers. The rebates are offered by our water wholesalers and are listed on the WaterSmartsd.org website. This site is continually updated with the most current rebate information and also includes information about other incentives, tools, and programs designed to make the most of the region's limited water supplies. Turf replacement rebates may be offered through the San Diego County Water Authority's (SDCWA's) Sustainable Landscapes Program, which is the go-to resource to assist San Diego County residents in adopting sustainable landscaping best practices through education and training, technical assistance, landscaping materials and financial incentives. For qualified applicants, incentives may provide a reimbursement of $1.75 per square foot to replace water-intensive turf grass with landscaping that provides an array of environmental benefits.

Residents in San Diego County may also be eligible for the Metropolitan Water District’s (MWD's) Landscape Transformation Program.  For residents, MWD may offer $1 and the Water Authority may add $1.75 per square foot for a total of $2.75 for qualifying projects. Businesses may be eligible for $1 per square foot.

*For both programs, funding is limited and participants must comply with all program requirements to be eligible. As of 11/01/18, we have been informed that funding for both SDCWA and MWD programs is close to being exhausted.
